Hello,
I am from America. I do not speak German, so I am using Google translator. In America, information about Adler is scarce. Is it correct that the 189A came with either a cord chain or a tooth belt? I have an Adler 189A that is fitted with sprockets and a bike chain! It looks very old. Has anyone seen this before?

My guess is that your machine was modified in order to deal with the decayed tooth belt. The evidence I use is the tensioning pulley. The original design used parts which were matched so an additional pulley was not necessary. Another member who posted some days ago also put the tensioning pulley at that place. Which is from a mechanical standpoint okay but based on principle it is not in my view.

Others might have more insight but I doubt a bicycle chain was ever used in the first place when the machine was built.

The holder for the motor also looks like an aftermarket item. And one that was not designed for the Adler.

The bobbin winder also lacks its rubber tire.

Anyways, as long as it works be happy with it!
